Important Pre-Examination Information:
1) If you currently have any medical problems or have had any in the past or if you have taken any prescription medication in the last 2 years please go to https://www.faa.gov/ame_guide and research the sections related to your medical issues. This can help avoid surprises at our visit.
2) If you are receiving VA benefits please send a .pdf of your conditions to this number and bring a hard copy with you to the appointment. You can go to: https://www.va.gov/records/download-va-letters/ to download your Benefit Verification Letter.
3) If you have EVER been arrested for a DUI (It doesn’t matter if the charges were dropped, expunged or you were found not guilty) you will need to report this as the FAA has access to driving records. If this is the case please consider obtaining the arrest and/or court records before coming for your appointment because these will need to be submitted to the FAA before I can issue the medical certificate.
4) If you wear glasses or contacts for any reason please make sure you have them with you. Monovision contacts (one lens for distance and one for near vision) are not acceptable to the FAA during flight so you will need to bring glasses instead in order to pass the vision tests. Keep in mind that the minimum visual acuity that is acceptable to the FAA is 20/40 (corrected or uncorrected) for a class 3 medical and 20/20 (corrected or uncorrected) for a class 1 or 2.
5) Please bring your picture ID. Also, please note that the name you put in your MedXPress application must match exactly the ID you bring in with you (this should be the same ID you use for your pilot certificate application. There are some Designated Pilot Examiners (DPE’s) out there who will not give a check ride if your government issued ID has a middle name but you did not include it on your medical certificate.
6) A urinalysis is required so make sure you have had some fluids in the hour before being seen in order to avoid any delays.
